In
2004 Western New York Floor
completed the replacement floor at
the Burkman Gymnasium in the
Augsbury Physical Education Center
at St. Lawrence University.
The floor is 14,100 square feet,
with a Boston Square® parquet
pattern in the center court area.
The
existing floor was an older system
that had no resilience, and once it
was removed the concrete slab
beneath the floor turned out to be
extremely uneven. Since the
existing floor's thickness was over
3 inches, and the leveling of the
slab with cementitious materials
would be very expensive, the staff
at the University chose Robbins
Bio-Channel Classic.
Bio-Channel classic can be shimmed
to alleviate slab unevenness, and
with solid continuous infill under
the sleeper-channels, dead spots
were eliminated. With a shock
absorbency of over 55%, the new
floor is dramatically more
comfortable to play on and the
aesthetic improvement speaks for
itself.
